Bike Preparation

Build a machine that can pass tech inspection and safely compete on track.

Tech Inspection Basics

Prepare the motorcycle before race weekend pressure starts.

These are core requirements from CMRA’s bike preparation guidance. Other requirements also apply, so verify your machine against the current Sporting and Technical Rules.

Safety Wire
Any bolt or cap holding fluid in must be safety wired. Any nut, bolt, or plug holding wheels and brakes on must also be safety wired.
Fluid Lines and Coolant
Fluid-holding lines must be clamped. Glycol-based antifreezes are prohibited; water-cooled engines must use plain water or an approved alternative.
Street Equipment
Side stand, license plate, and bracket must be removed. Glass and plastic lenses must be taped over.
Tires and Valve Stems
Bring good tires with hard plastic or metal valve stems suitable for track competition.
Containment
A sealed lower fairing, commonly called a belly pan, is required for fluid containment.
Controls
Bar ends must be closed ended, and a lever guard is required on the brake lever.

Safety Wiring

Learn the technique before you arrive at tech.

The legacy CMRA page includes this safety wiring video as a helpful pointer. Use it as a starting reference, then confirm your specific machine against the rules.

Before You Roll to Tech

Do not treat the checklist as the whole rulebook.

Tech inspection happens before the motorcycle goes on track.

The rider is responsible for making sure the machine is safe to compete.

Section 5.3 of the CMRA Sporting and Technical Rules is the complete source of truth.

Safe machinery is part of race craft.

Prepare early, inspect your own work, and arrive at tech with a machine that is ready for competition.
